Change the Way of Thinking

How can you expect someone to love and like you, if you don’t even love or like yourself? A friend of mine, who was always very outgoing, not only lost her job last year but her self respect along with it. She put on a brave face to start with, but then became very morose and moody, and whenever anyone tried to talk to her she just put herself down. It was very sad to see the change and most of her friends found it difficult to spend time with her.

About this time she and I met up for a chat, and I believe I told her what most of her other friends felt they could not. She made a commitment to me that she would do something about her life and change her way of thinking. Well, she did! She wrote down all her personal attributes and achievements and began to think positively about herself. She constructively researched new avenues of employment and found that other people started looking at her in a new light. Within a few weeks she landed herself another job which was considerably better than the last, and even more importantly she regained her self respect and confidence and once more became the happy person we all remembered.

Understand that the world is your mirror There is a definite link between how much love you have for yourself and giving love to others. I’m sure you must have noticed many times that when you are smiling and feeling great the whole world seems to smile with you, and life takes on a completely different hue. The fact is that the rest of the world is like a mirror and reflects the way we think about ourselves. When you don’t like yourself, you will tend to find fault in others, and they in turn may begin to dislike you. When you like yourself, you will tend to treat others in a fair, understanding and pleasant way which they will appreciate.
